- January 1 – New Year’s Day
- April 21 – Tiradentes day (commemorates the execution of freedom fighter Tiradentes in 1792)
- May 1 – Labour Day
- May 13 – Abolishment of slavery (1888)
- September 7 – Independence day (1822)
- October 12 – Nossa Senhora da Aparecida (Patron Saint of Brazil)
- November 2 - All Souls Day
- November 15 – Proclamation of the Republic (1889)
- December 24 – Christmas Eve (half day)
- December 25 – Christmas Day
- December 31 – New Year's Eve (half day)
The dates of the following holidays change from year to year:
- Carnival, starts at Carnival Friday (51 days before Easter) and lasts till Tuesday (47 days before Easter)
- Ash Wednesday (day after Carnival, 46 days before Easter)
- Good Friday (Friday before Easter)
- Easter
- Corpus Cristi (the eighth Thursday or 60 days after Easter)
In addition, there are many regional holidays. Every city has an own patron saint which has an own day. Two of these local holidays are:
- January 20 – Holiday in Rio de Janeiro to commemorate its foundation
- January 25 – Saint Paul, which is of course a holiday in São Paulo.
