Electricity and Voltage

Some Brazilian regions use 110 volt, others use 220 volt. Some cities on the border between two regions have both voltages: some houses have 110 volt, others have 220 volts. The only difference in the electric outlets is a label but this is not always used. Travellers from countries that use 110 volt can better ask before they plug in their equipment.

The frequency is always 60Hz. This is the same as in the USA but Europe uses electricity of 50Hz. If an electrical European clock is used in Brazil it will gain 12 minutes per hour.

Foreigners need an adapter if they bring electronic equipment as the Brazilian plugs use probably different sizes than the plugs in their country.
