Traveling throught the South of Brazil
The South of Brazil is mainly populated by the descendants of immigrants from Europe. It is popular among tourists who prefer a less warm climate. Although its winter falls during the summer of the northern hemisphere, it never becomes really cold in this area. A renowned itinerary for tourists is Florianópolis. This is the capital of the state of Santa Catarina. It is situated on an island before the coast which is surrounded by an archipelago of smaller islands. Old fortresses were built on some of these islands in order to protect the ships of the Portuguese in the 17th century.
