Visa

The need for a visa depends on your nationality, the aim of your visit and the time you will spend in Brazil.

Tourists from the USA, Canada and Australia need a visa. Most tourists from the EU do not need a visa if they plan to stay in Brazil for less than 90 or (after a prolongation) 180 days. However, the Brazilian immigration police (Policia Federal) may still require that these tourists prove that they

  • possess sufficient financial means for their stay (e.g. a credit card)
  • their passport is valid for at least six months from the date of entry
  • prove the aim of the entry in Brazil (e.g. a hotel reservation or a ticket for the return flight)

If you want to stay longer than 90 days as a tourist, you need to prolongate your stay at the Polícia Federal.

The Brazilian consulates in your country are able to present more information on the visa that you need. Contact them before your travel.
