Concert Rolling Stones on Copacabana: Rio Rocks!
Published by Dona Brasil on 2006/2/19
Rio Rocks! The concert of the Rolling Stones on the beach of Copacabana was attended by more than one million fans. It was the largest Rolling Stones concert ever and it was part of the A Bigger Bang world tour.
The Stones haven't lost their English humor yet: well informed about the rivalry between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Mick Jagger shouted "Alguem de São Paulo aqui?" (Anyone here from Sao Paulo?). What followed was a horrifying silence. Of course, the next question "Alguem do Rio de Janeiro?" was replied by the enthousiastic voices of 1.2 million visitors.
Allthough this was the biggest concert of the Rolling Stones ever, it was not the biggest rock concert in history. In 1994, a concert of Rod Stewart on this same Praia de Copacabana attracted more than 4.2 million visitors. And if you think that Rio de Janeiro has seen enough mass gatherings for a while you are wrong: Carnival starts next week (Februari, 25)!
