Pagode
Pagode is a style of music that arose in the late 1970-ties in Rio de Janeiro. It was derived from Samba. It combines Samba with other rhythms of African origin. Pagode is real party music! The term 'Pagode' originally meant a party with food, music and dance. The first album in this genre was released by Beth Carvalho and was named 'Beth Carvalho no Pagode ' ('Beth Carvalho at the party'). The most famous pagodeiro is Zeca Pagodinho who keeps living in a favela (a Brazilian slum) despite his enormous success.
