Prune sweet (Docinho de ameixa e leite condensado)

The Brazilian cuisine has a large tradition on making sweets. This prune sweet resembles the olhos de sogra of which a recipe is due soon.

Ingredients

  • 1 can of condensated milk
  • 300 g (10,5 oz) of grated coconut
  • 200 g (7,0 oz) prunes
  • ‘edible’ or disposable paper

Preparation
Prepare doce de leite first (click here for a recipe). It is best to leave the doce de leite in the fridge for one day before opening the can.

Cut the prunes in two. Put the grated coconut on a plate. Make balls of the doce de leite by taking a small portion on a spoon and using an other spoon to drop it on the plate with grated coconut. Use a third spoon to role the doce de leite through the grated coconut until it does no longer stick to your spoon. This requires some skill. Some people prefer to butter their hands and roll the doce de leite into balls by hand.

Push half a prune into the ball of doce de leite and your prune sweet is ready. Serve on a piece of edible or disposable piece of paper as it would otherwise be too sticky.
