Doce de Leite
Doce de Leite is consumed all over Latin-America and is called 'Dulce de Leche ' in Spanish. It is a caramel made of milk and suger and can be made of condensed milk. It is not only used as a candy but also as an icecream flavour. In 1997, Häagen-Dazs introduced this ice-cream flavour in de USA where it became an enormous success.
The preparation is easy but it takes some time:
Take a can of sweetened condensed milk. Remove the label and clean it. Put the can in a large pan with water. Bring to a boil, lower the heat and allow to simmer for 2 hours. Allow to cool and place the can in the refrigerator for 4 hours. If you want to cut your doce de leite in slices, you can open the can on both ends and push it on a plate (watch out: the opened can has probably sharp edges). Alternatively, you can open the can on one side only and take it out with a spoon.
