The Cuisine of Northeast Brazil
The Northeast of Brazil has an economy that was traditionally based on the plantations of sugar and cacao. The major share of the African slaves who were brought to Brazil, were brought to this area. As a result, this region has the Brazilian cuisine that was most influenced by Africa. Except for that, the Portuguese cuisine has had profound influence in this region. Near the coast, the food consist for a large part of fish and other seafood. In the dry hinterland, the traditional food consists for a large part of rice, beans, goatmeat, cassava and dried meat. Fruit is popular as well near the coast as in hinterland. |
