Pumpkin (Abóbora)

Pumpkin on a Brazilian market.
Pumpkin was cultivated by Amerindians as early as 9000 years ago. Although it was brought to Europe after the discovery of the New World, it never became as popular as it is in the Americas.

Brazilian pumpkins have firm, orange flesh. It is eaten as a dish on its own or added to soups, pies or desserts.
