Pineapple

Brazilians eat it as a side dish, often in or instead of salad. Pineapple contains the enzyme bromelain which digests food by breaking down protein.
Pineapple is native to Brazil but was spread over the world after the arrival of Columbus. The pineapple plant is a kind of bromeliad. Under natural conditions, it is polinated by humming birds.
