Banana

Banana tree.
Bananas were brougth to Brazil from Asia by the Portuguese. Like in many other tropical countries, Brazil has a large variation in bananas. Nevertheless, two main types of Banana can be distinguished: real bananas and plantains. Plantains contain a lot of starch and have very little sweetness. Plantains can be used for hot meals like soups or stews and are often boiled and mashed.
