Cachaça or aguardente
Cachaça is a distilled alcoholic beverage from Brazil. It is made from sugarcane. There are many different qualities. Some are extremely good and some others are extremely bad. The best qualities are handmade and are mainly from the state of Minas Gerais, but some other highly prized brands are produced in São Paulo, Ceará and Pernambuco. The restaurant Academia da Cachaça in the Leblon district of Rio de Janeiro has a stock of 2000 different species of cachaça. Their oldest bottle has an age of 130 years.
